*Voluntourism

Volunteering in the local community when you travel.  The Andros Beach Club has a strong commitment to the health and well being of the island and its children and families. To that end, there is a long standing relationship with the local schools to enhance the daily curriculum with experts unavailable on the island.  Voluntourism is encouraged and many after school activity clubs and mentoring programs have been established over the past several years. In order to encourage this kind of “alternative” destination travel, we make lodging discounts available to those with qualified credentials who wish to volunteer in the schools. This has been approved by the local education authorities.  We also accept donations if you wish to support local school and community programs.

In March 2008, five students from Burlington College of Vermont each earned 3 credits during a 6 day trip to South Andros Island.  Each student chose an area of study including the coral reef, the blue holes, mangroves, ethnobotany and echinoderms (starfish, urchins, etc.).   Click here to read the student blog from their trip.
